28th September 2008

I've been working in this hotel for 7 months now. The facade is an unassuming blue and gray but the the atrium is refreshing to behold - especially on sunny days.

27th September 2008

This is my plain and spartan office. I'm back here after being in the business center for a week. My window looks out to the ramp that goes into the basement. A contender for the most boring views in the world.

26th September 2008

Vegetarian stroganoff. I replaced the beef with soya nugget pieces. A dash of nutmeg and tarragon and a hefty serving of thick cream. Nice, tasty dinner but hardly non-fattening.

25th September 2008

Harrison hanging out in Stanley's cat condo. In this photo Harrison just ate and his trying is best to ignore me as he is not in need of my services.

24th September 2008

My "workstation". I spend most of my waking hours here surfing or watching TV series and/or movies.

23rd September 2008

I arrived from work today to find Harrison bathed in sunlight and curled up on top of my comforter. It was such a beautiful sight. The worries and frustrations of the day just melted away.

22nd September 2008

One of my favorite restaurants, Chop Chop in Mall of the Emirates. I was walking by trying not to look silly when I took the picture so it's not a very nice shot. What I usually order: Tofu in Sweet Chili Garlic Sauce, Crispy Mushrooms or Vegetarian Sushi. I should try their Phad Thai sometime...

Behold, my journal. The repository of all my deepest thoughts. When I die all my journals will be bequeathed to Gladys. She's the only one who would read it without judging me.

Break Up Email

I got this break up email generated by www.BreakUpEmail.com. What a gem! Wish I could send it but I don't really feel as disdainful as the email suggests.

Dear MFR,

I'm writing you this email because I think our relationship has run its course. Do you realize that you're a total loser? I can't believe how selfish you are. Relationships are supposed to be about sharing, jerk. I know you'll probably tell everyone that you dumped me, because you're a liar. But everyone knows that already, so they won't believe you. I called the nursery school program, and they agreed to let you in after they assessed your maturity level. You know, a little respect can go a long way. But the amount of respect you give me is only enough for ME to go a long way. A long way away from you, douchebag. Frankly, you just don't care enough about me. Luckily I care enough about me to make up for it, by saying goodbye to you. It's not easy to carry on a successful relationship with someone like you. And by that, I mean someone who is downright stupid, you feebleminded dimwit.

Some people get very little money out of their job. Some people get dumped. Joy of joys, you get both.

Sorry, but you're not even worth keeping as a friend. It may be a typical line, but it's true: we just aren't meant for each other. I never want to see you again, jerkface! Stay away from me or I'll beat you with a frozen salmon. I think you get the idea: this relationship is over.

Get lost loser!
Mitzie

20th September 2008

This our tiny kitchen. It is neat and clean today thanks to our friend Janice. Left to our own devices, Cheryl and I always make a mess out of it.

19th September 2008

I hardly ever doodle because I'm not very good at drawing.

But today is a little special.

Instead of saying it out loud I just drew it....HBR.

18th September 2008

Today I went to a job interview. While looking for a cab to take me back to the office I passed by Raffles Hotel Dubai. Though grand, the Raffles Hotel in Singapore has more personality and charm.

17th September 2008

Harrison like to sleep on this corner of the bed by the window. He likes that pillow too. He uses it more than I do. He always gets what he wants.

16 September 2008

I moved my office recently and now sit in our hotel's business center. I'm still deciding if I like it or not. Haven't spent much time there this week though.

15th September 2008

Obviously I love taking photos of Harrison. He is way more photogenic than I am.

14 September 2008

Last Sunday I donated some of my clothes to the Red Crescent Society. It was nice feeling to be able to help in my own little way. Now I have more room in my closet for new clothes! Nice trade-off, eh? That's my bag of clothes, being tossed into the donation bin by the man on the left.

13 September 2008

This is my usual spot in the evenings - in front of the laptop. When Harrison wants my attention he sits behind the screen and dolefully looks at me as I chat and/or surf. He always wins.

Ninja Cat

This is just too funny not to post! I laughed so hard I almost fell out of my chair!

  1. Me
  2. Harrison
  3. Stanley
  4. My sister, Pam
  5. Princess
  6. MFR

11th September 2008

Hello Panda snacks have been around since I was in school. In Manila it was available in small boxes. When we have a craving for chocolate biscuits we either bought Hello Panda or Yan Yan (pretzels that you dip in chocolate). I was pleased when I saw this big canister of Hello Panda in Dubai. The ones in the boxes just isn't enough.

10th September 2008

This is Stanley, Cheryl's cat and Harrison's play buddy. When Cheryl locks him up in her bedroom so she can have him all to herself, both cats become depressed because they like keeping each other company. When Stanley comes to my room I don't pet him that much because he bites when he's cantankerous.

9th September 2008

Harrison likes to join me at the dining table when I sit down and eat. In this photo I was asking him what he wants even if I knew that he was entreating me for more camel's milk. I didn't give it to him right away because I was enjoying myself while talking to him.

8th September 2008

Today I bought 2 boxes (my eyes have different prescriptions) of 1-day contact lenses. A lot of people have told me I look younger without my glasses on but I still prefer glasses over contacts. Maybe 1-day contacts would be more comfortable than the ones I usually buy.

7th September 2008

I was looking at this scene from our balcony just before I was kissed for the first time. Whenever I go out the balcony to hang my laundry or take Harrison out for fresh air I stop and look and I remember it as if it were yesterday.

6th September 2008

This is the view outside my bedroom window. Yes, I live in a fast growing concrete jungle where the only natural thing I see is the sun setting in the distance. Another day is over.

5th September 2008

After nearly a full night of web surfing I couldn’t bring myself to cook a proper breakfast. Behold my sugar laden meal – a custard donut coated with powdered sugar and a caramel chai drink. The hot liquid brought comfort to my stomach and I would not be surprised if I added a few pounds just by looking at the donut.

4th September 2008

Today I was disappointed. I stood like this for a long time thinking about how disappointed I was. Anyway later on I snapped out of it and proceeded to clean my room and rearrange my furniture. I hope I will get another chance and not be disappointed like today.

3rd September 2008

I picked a few things at the grocery store today.
From left to right:
-My stir-fried vegetable balls in garlic sauce and fried rice dinner. It came with hot and sour soup which tasted nasty.
-Lavender scented tissue paper.
-Camel milk and cat food for Harrison (he loves camel milk and it doesn’t give him runny bowels)
-Toasted oats for quick breakfasts or snacking

2nd September 2008

This is my mug at I use at work. I bought it on sale at The One. I like it because it has 2 of my favorite things – cats and the color blue. I don’t drink coffee much but I make it a point to drink water as often as I can. I like chai too and every once in a while I go to the cafeteria and fill my mug with it. I used to give my mug for washing to the kitchen steward but now I just wash it by myself.

1st September 2008

His name is Harrison. My surrogate son. He wakes me up without fail every morning, long before my alarm goes off. Sometimes I pretend to be asleep and watch him under semi-closed eyes on how he taps the side of my face with his paw or how he leans in and licks my nose. I love this cat immensely. He makes me happy every single day.
